What’s In Your Air? Some of the More Common Indoor Air Contaminants

At Kool Breeze, we’re concerned about your whole-house comfort. This goes beyond simply seeing that you have an effective air conditioning system for the hot summers and an energy-efficient heater for the short winters. It also includes improving your indoor air quality. You can’t be truly comfortable in a household with air that’s filled with irritants. Nor is it healthy, either. We offer a wide range of indoor air quality solutions, such as air purifiers and air filters.

When we set up IAQ devices for homes, we make sure that the filters and cleaners installed target the specific types of pollutants present. We’ve listed some of the more common indoor air contaminants below:

  • Volatile organic compounds (VOCs): This is a large group of harmful gases that comes from different sources within a home and which will cause eye and nose irritation, nausea and central nervous system damage. You can’t avoid VOCs altogether because they can arise from building materials, cleaning supplies, hobby products, fuel combustion, carpets and even office equipment such as printers. But you can reduce them with the right air purifiers.
  • Mold and bacteria: Few types of pollutants are more alarming to homeowners than organic pests that can cause illnesses, such as viruses and mold spores. To eliminate these dangerous intruders usually requires special UV air purifiers.
  • Dust mites: No matter how clean you keep your house, you can still have dust mites—tiny insectoid creatures—living in it and getting blown around the rooms. Dust mites aren’t parasitic and don’t bite, but they are a major trigger for allergies and asthma.
  • Carbon monoxide: This colorless, odorless, and toxic gas is a byproduct of burning a variety of fuels. If you use natural gas to power parts of your house, then you probably have higher CO levels than you should.

If you’re concerned about your home’s indoor air quality, call Kool Breeze of Northwest Florida, Inc. and set up an appointment. We serve Destin and all of Northwest Florida.
