Get Ready for Your HVAC Replacement Appointment

Your HVAC system is like the heart and lungs of your home. It’s absolutely critical, whether it’s summer and you need AC, or it’s winter and you need heat. It can even include things like a dehumidifier or an air purifier. So you don’t want to be caught unprepared when some portion of that critical system needs to be replaced.

Having as much information as possible in advance can help you make decisions about when to schedule something as important as a furnace or air conditioner replacement. How long does it take to replace a heating or AC system? What do you need to do to prepare for the installation appointment? We’ll give you the facts. If you have any questions about HVAC replacement in Navarre, FL, we’d be delighted to provide you with answers.

Plan Your Timing

First, you should consider scheduling your replacement before your furnace or air conditioner fails completely. This will make it easier to plan something that’s convenient for your calendar and help you avoid a situation where you lack heating or cooling for hours or days during the time when you need it most.

Second, you should have a clear sense of how long your HVAC replacement will take. In most cases, the entire process can easily be done in a single day. Sometimes it can be as short as four hours to get an old system out and a new one set up. But you should plan on being available for the whole day because it can take more like eight hours.

There are situations that result in multi-day installation processes. One example would be if you’ve previously had an electric furnace and are switching to a gas-burning model. You might need to have your gas line extended, or even have your home connected by your gas provider before your installation. Or, if your ductwork is badly damaged, it might be wise to replace or repair it before a new furnace or air conditioner is installed.

Clear the Area

Make sure the way is clear from where the installers will park to where they will enter your home. It’s all too easy to trip over a branch or a hula hoop while trying to carry a large appliance. If this is an AC installation, clear the way to the outdoor unit. Indoors, clear the way to where your furnace or indoor AC unit is located.

Also, make sure there’s plenty of space to work in these areas. Trim shrubs or rake leaf litter around the outdoor AC unit. Move furniture away from the indoor unit. In the case of a heating system, you should always have a clear area of about five feet in every direction around the heater. This will help keep you safe by reducing fire hazards.

Finally, clear the area of any curious paws or wagging tails. We don’t want your pets to get stepped on or escape open doors. Some pets also find it stressful to have a major change going on in their home. So shut them safely in a separate part of the house.
